As someone who grew up in the “Friendly City”, I understand that not everything is available in Moose Jaw when you need it. It has a slower pace, older community, and early closing times for most businesses that make it a lovely place to raise a family. However, sometimes, the pace can cause inconveniences. This is definitely true when looking for a new used car, truck, van or SUV.
I remember the drives to Regina from Moose Jaw in the backseat of my parent’s car to go to the big city on a shopping trip. The excitement of seeing the SaskFerco/Yara plant sending plumes of steam into the air as far as the eye can see, going overtop of the Belle Plaine bridge and looking down at all the train cars, reaching the halfway point of Pense, and then finally, the massive skyline appearing on the horizon (in comparison to little old Moose Jaw anyway) meant we were almost at our destination.
Most of the time, it was first stop Cornwall Centre! However, this time, my Dad had something else in mind. It turned out this was not the day at the mall my sister and I had expected. Instead of entering the dark parking garage in Downtown Regina, we ended up in another place full of vehicles that I had never seen before. These cars were a lot different than the ones in the Parking garage. They were clean and all parked the same way. This was a car dealership! What are we doing here?
My parents had decided that now was the time to upgrade our vehicle into a bigger, nicer, newer, and more reliable one before we headed off on a vacation to B.C. in the coming weeks. We went to a couple of different places and checked out what they had to offer. We ended up driving a couple of different minivans, which at the time, were the latest and greatest new thing in the vehicle market. We drove brand new, we drove used, we drove Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and any other brand that was offering the new minivans. Then we went to the little trailer behind the big fancy dealership to the Used part of the lot. Why did we need to go to a smaller building? Why weren’t these cars as shiny and fancy? My adolescent brain could not wrap my head around why we were looking at these vehicles when we could be looking at those!
It turns out my Dad had done his research. We ended up deciding to go with a Pontiac Transport, a step up from the brand-new Chevrolet Venture and Ford Windstar we had just finished test driving. I did not realize it at the time, but my family decided to go with the Pontiac because it just made sense from all angles. Sure, it was a year older, and someone else had driven it for that first year, but when you are looking at getting a vehicle with more options, for a fraction of the price of its brand-new counterpart, it just made sense. Not to mention it still came with the balance of its Manufacturer Warranty, so there was very little risk and a lot of money to be saved by choosing to go the used route over brand-new.
Why have I chosen to write about this? Because it has been over 20 years since this happened, and almost nothing in the buying landscape has changed. If you really want to find a new vehicle as a resident of Moose Jaw, you need to look outside of Moose Jaw in order to get options. No other dealer can compete with O’Brians Automotive’s Used Inventory. With over 250 used vehicles, all located in Saskatchewan, we can get you the vehicle you want the same day, with the benefit of saving thousands because it is a previously owned vehicle.
One thing that has changed over time though is dealer deliveries to the customer. O’Brians Automotive was somewhat of a pioneer with this as we have been delivering vehicles to the homes of our customers that have requested this service for over a decade. With the advancements in technology, it is much easier to find everything you could possibly want to know about a vehicle nowadays. Whether it is comparing prices with competitors, taking a virtual test drive, or even having one of our talented Sales Representatives take a video of the vehicle you’re interested in so you have whatever peace of mind you require before making one of the largest purchases you will make, you can access whatever you might want, with incredible transparency.
If you are a resident of Moose Jaw and in the market for a new vehicle, why not give O’Brians Automotive a try when you come to the Queen City for a new vehicle? You won’t regret it. And if you cannot make it into Regina to one of our dealerships (1455 Broad St and 551 Victoria Ave), just visit our site or give us a call. We would be more than happy to bring your new vehicle to you!
